Asmongold says that Twitch easily could ban online gaming streams

The streamer Asmongold says that Twitch can easily stop streams of online gambling from the platform. He reasons that a ban from the company would be the most effective way to end casino game streams.

The debate has been lively since the Canadian streamer xQc went back to online gambling in his streams in May 2022 after not having played for almost a year. What sparked the controversy was that xQc revealed that his followers, in a short time, had lost $119 million on casino sign-up offers that he gets a commission on.

Several of the platform’s biggest streamers criticized xQc’s actions, saying he lacks morals. xQc, on the other hand, answered by saying that he’s no role model. One of the streamers defending xQc was the Texas-based streamer Asmongold, with 3.2 million followers on the platform.

Asmongold said on Twitter: “It’s pointless and naive moralizing over gambling when it makes so much money. People will always do it unless there is a change in the rules. It’s too lucrative and popular to pass up.”

Asmongold followed it up by saying that no one can be expected to not do sponsored streaming of casino games when it can pay millions of dollars, but he also said that he’d never sign up for a sponsorship himself.

On May 29, Asmongold continued to discuss the subject on his Twitch channel, saying that Twitch could change the rules.

“Twitch could say: no more gambling. And they could remove the slots category today, and they could say: if you’re streaming slots, you’ll get permabanned. And that’s it!”

The streamer adds that Twitch doesn’t need any governmental decision to decide what is allowed on the website.

Apart from Asmongold’s comment, there’s also a petition calling for Twitch to ban unregulated online casino streams. It was started on May 20 by Erin Jordan, and has reached 1725 signatures ten days after it was published. The petition calls for a ban on unregulated crypto casinos.
